Moving can be hectic, stressful, fun and exciting! Following are a few items you might want to consider when relocating to a new home.
Moving Company Tips
- Compare several moving companies; write down the things that are important to you so that you are comparing those issues. You may add to your list as you visit with various organizations.
- Get everything in writing from amounts per hour to how much to tip the workers. Include how many hours the job will take. Also include a limit to how much time the company is allowed to run over. This should be no more than 10%.
- Make sure to review your homeowner or renter policy. It is possible that your insurance company will cover things that are not covered by the movers. If not, you may want to consider purchasing additional insurance from the moving company you select.
- Only use a bonded company.
- Always check with the Better Business Bureau to assure that you are working with a reputable business.
Packing Tips
- Keep plenty of packing tape with a dispenser, markers, packing popcorn or newspaper, and boxes on hand.
- Start your packing early and organize things by room.
- Mark each box with the items that are in the box as well as where you want it to go once the box arrives at your new home. This will make the unloading task a lot easier.
- Do not overload the boxes. This can lead to broken items. If using sturdy boxes, you can pack as much as 50 lbs in a box.
- If you are sending plants, check to see that they are legal to travel from one state to another. Some plants cannot be transported according to the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
